The Coupeville school district budget is on an unsustainable growth trajectory. In the past 10 years salary costs have increased by over 50% despite a rate of inflation of less than 20% and the full time student population DECREASING by over 12%. In that same period, district revenue (our taxes!) has climbed from under $10 million in 2009-2010 to over $14 million in 2018-2019, an increase of over 43% (or more than double the rate of inflation).
This is unsustainable. Are we getting education results that are 50% better than they were 10 years ago, or are we just dumping more money into the system?
